About Us

Located on the corner of written whimsy and eccentricity, right off the edge of insanity.

Our goal is to independently produce creative works to honor Christ. We are all passionate about writing, and we created this platform to publish our own works and help others publish theirs. The literacy rate has started declining due to the ever-evolving technological advancements, but we hope to preserve a little, eccentric corner of the Internet where we can publish according to our Christian and family-friendly values.

We do not tolerate any use of AI generated work and strive for original pieces that showcase the light of Christ, the ultimate Creator. We believe beauty is God-given, and we want to have the opportunity to embrace the whimsy of real, soul-filled work with meaning and important themes. We want to challenge and be challenged by those around us to put our best efforts into our work for all to see.

Our Story

What can we tell you about ourselves? I guess we should start at the beginning. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…no, not that far back. The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America…okay, a little more recent. It all started in a creative writing class in college with our favorite professor, yeah that’s better.

In this class, we ran a digital publication for the school where we published and edited content weekly and released two larger publications made up of submissions from students or alumni from the school. The website was a wonderful opportunity for our team to practice and grow their skills as well as learn what it was like to run a major group project filled with collaboration (lots and lots and lots of experience in collaboration).

Towards the last month of the semester, Caleb and Myah were talking about the benefits of this project and the enjoyment of gaining this experience running a website and writing low-stakes articles about topics they enjoyed and getting them published. Myah jokingly told Caleb to create a “post-grad” website of his own. Unbeknownst to her, he took it seriously. Now, he’s accidentally in charge.

He started tossing around ideas and immediately knew he wanted to name the website The Pub, inspired by fantasy taverns and short for The Publication, as it was what our professor originally wanted to name the school website. The conversation expanded into figuring out which of our classmates we should recruit to the very lofty cause. Mattie was the amazing Website Manager during the semester and fought with WordPress daily to perfect the formatting and design, and Caleb requested her to be consulted first, giving us our Website Manager with loads of experience. Viviana, Lilli, and Gwyneth came as a set of three and were also some of the most reliable and passionate students in the class; their recommendation came shortly after. In the class, Lilli and Gwyneth were former Managing Editors with Myah, and Viviana was the glue holding the Marketing team together.

What started as a wild pitch of a dream in the lounge blossomed into a real goal that didn’t seem so hard to achieve anymore. We asked our professor if we could use the name he came up with. Even though he won’t say it, we all know we’re his favorite students because he asked to be involved. After a few more wacky meetings filled with mostly sleep-deprived ideas, proper goals and an extremely chaotic outline were set. While we had agreed that it did not need to be started immediately, the overachieving tryhards, as our professor calls us, jumped the gun and began brainstorming as soon as summer break started.

Such is the story of The Pub and its origins, a tale of friendship and accidental strokes of genius that brought the original six members closer together and bonded them for life. The Lord’s timing is truly what connected the six of us as the scheduling of class aligned with all of our schedules. We would say, “without further ado”, but this was very much ado…we give you…The Pub.

Caleb Tu

Editor-in-Chief, Staff Writer, Editor

I am an aspiring Christian author who enjoys writing fantasy with a touch of sci-fi. I’m currently a student working on my BA in Creative Writing & Publishing. I fell in love with storytelling at a very young age as my parents read me book after book in an effort to get me to sleep at night (it didn’t work). My interests, besides reading and writing, include logic, spreadsheets, chess, and occasionally coding, math, and physics. I am also an avid player of Dungeons & Dragons, where (no matter which side of the table I’m sitting at) I act as loremaster, compiling worldbuilding and timelines to build immersion.

Head Managing Editor, Staff Writer, Editor

I am currently working on my BA in Creative Writing & Publishing. I have been writing since I was eight years old; my other hobbies include art and fashion design, amateur graphic design, watching movies, thrifting, and baking. I love coming up with ideas but have entirely too many to choose from, and I’ve had a passion for editing since I picked up a red pen in 7th grade grammar. Don’t ask me about my interests unless you’re prepared to get trapped in a long conversation. I’m grateful for my friends and family who have supported me all this time and for God for giving me these gifts. I strive to use my creativity to glorify Him and create good works of art.

Managing Editor, Staff Writer, Editor

I am a student working towards my BA in Creative Writing & Publishing. I’m an aspiring author who’s been writing science fiction with a hint of fantasy for longer than is probably healthy. I have an interest in all kinds of science, specifically genetic engineering and marine biology, and I love getting to pull that into my work. I showcase humanity and our flaws in everything I write, but the end focus is on hope, not suffering. Writing is everything to me, and while my stories aren’t Christian, I know God shines through everything I make.

Mattie May

Website Manager, Staff Writer, Editor

I hold a BA in Creative Writing & Publishing from The Master’s University. I’m also an independent author, writer, aspiring website designer, and harpist. When I’m not lost in the clouds, I enjoy spending time with family, friends, traveling, or wandering through the pages of a book. I love studying history and will shamelessly ramble about whatever I am most recently studying to whoever will listen. If you want to learn more about me and my most recent projects, check out my Linktree: MattieMayAuthor.

Viviana Rocha

Social Media Manager, Staff Writer, Editor

I am a Christian aspiring author and an Interdisciplinary Studies student of Creative Writing & Publishing and English. When I was younger, I had wanted to write books to give Christians quality reading while still being clean. My aim, however, changed. While I still want to minister to my brother and sisters in Christ, I also want my writing to reach the unsaved. I hope my works will provoke imagination and deeper thought to both fellow Christians and to unbelievers. I enjoy creating immersive worlds and diverse characters with hints of parallels and metaphors. While not necessarily “Christian literature”, I strive to strip bare the human condition, showing the harsh reality of a fallen world; and from that, point to the hope we can have.

Graphic Design, Staff Writer, Editor

I am a student currently pursuing a BA in Creative Writing & Publishing. I’ve been writing ever since I was able to pick up a pencil. If I weren’t so interested in reading and writing, I would probably be an ornithologist—I have three budgies named Merry, Aragorn, and Gandalf respectively. My interest in art is only a hobby, but I still somehow got roped into doing all the graphic art for The Pub. I’m more than happy to use my God-given gifts for glorifying Him, and strive to do all in His name.
